About MontanaSky

We’re your Montana Internet company.

For over three decades, MontanaSky has invested in the infrastructure that keeps Montana connected, competitive, and ready for what comes next.

Our story

From dial-up to fiber-fast.

MontanaSky opened its doors in 1993 when founder Frederick Weber realized that the internet was going to change the world.

We helped lead the way from those wild-west dial-up days to DSL, SkyConnect wireless, and now FiberConnect™ — the fastest internet Montana’s ever seen.

Our history

Built for Montana, from day one.

From the moment dial-up tones echoed across Montana, MontanaSky was here. As the internet evolved from simple homepages to today’s high-speed world, we’ve evolved with it — always building a network that puts our customers first.

From dial-up pioneer to fiber leader

MontanaSky opened in 1993, when the internet was still brand new. As technology evolved, so did we — becoming one of the first dial-up providers in northwest Montana, then partnering with local phone companies to roll out DSL service.

Over time, we built our SkyConnect network to reach rural homes with strong, reliable internet.

When fiber-optics became the future, we partnered with the Health Information Exchange of Montana to help fund and support critical fiber routes between hospital systems — and to bring that same robust fiber network all the way to homes with FiberConnect™.

How we keep Montana connected
  • • True reliability starts with a redundant, resilient fiber-optic backbone — the foundation of our entire network.
  • • We use a mix of technologies to reach our customers, because every Montana community is unique.
  • • We continually invest in our infrastructure to deliver faster, more reliable service statewide, including:
    • • Carrier-grade battery backup and generator systems
    • • Redundant links to our distribution sites
    • • Strong partnerships with national providers
    • • Ongoing upgrades to the latest network technologies
  • • Most importantly, a dedicated local team to professionals to get you back up and running when something goes wrong.
Community

We care about our communities.

At MontanaSky, connectivity goes beyond our network. We’re committed to the communities we live and work in — giving back, participating, and investing in the people and organizations that make Montana what it is.

Local events

Community Support

At MontanaSky Networks, we believe strong communities make for strong connections. That’s why we regularly give back through donated time, financial support, and complimentary connectivity to local organizations across the Flathead Valley and beyond.

Our commitment extends to schools, chambers of commerce, nonprofits, and youth programs, helping make community events and initiatives possible all year long. From local runs and festivals to business summits and family-friendly gatherings, we’re proud to support the people and organizations that help our communities thrive.

Essential services

Assisting Non-Profits

In 2025, the MontanaSky team donated time, equipment, and expertise to upgrade the Wi-Fi and phone systems at the Samaritan House, along with providing complimentary fiber-optic internet connectivity. These improvements have enabled the staff to focus on their mission of supporting vulnerable members of our community, rather than worrying about network outages or Wi-Fi dead zones.

Affordability

A Vibrant Economy

At MontanaSky, we believe that a strong economy benefits everyone who calls Northwest Montana home. That’s why we proudly donate connectivity to the Flathead Job Fair and maintain membership in every Chamber of Commerce within the communities we serve. Our focus on delivering reliable rural connectivity ensures that our workforce—and our neighbors—can compete and thrive in an ever-growing digital world.

Leadership

Management Team

A leadership team committed to building the fastest, most reliable internet for Montana. Local people, deep experience, and real accountability.

Frederick Weber
Founder
Started: Day 1

A true serial entrepreneur, Frederick has spent his career exploring and excelling in a wide range of industries. He has managed oilfield operations, run a local music store, and even led an Olympic waterski camp in Rexford, MT. When the internet was little more than a rumor in major metropolitan areas, Fred made the bold decision to bring this emerging technology to Northwest Montana so the community could experience and enjoy it firsthand. Since the very first dial-up tone in 1993, he has remained a hands-on operator, guiding the company through every stage of the internet’s evolution.

Though “semi-retired” today, Fred remains actively engaged in the business. When he’s not developing applications—such as MontanaSky Streamer (https://www.facebook.com/MontanaSkyStreamer/)—you can often find him answering tech-support calls at all hours of the day and night. His passion for innovation, service, and community continues to shape MontanaSky’s mission and success.

Ryan Bowman
CEO
Started: 2012

Born and raised in Kalispell, MT, Ryan has always been a “geek” at heart. After graduating from Flathead High School, he spent several years as a General Manager at a local McDonald’s restaurant. He later entered the telecom industry as a sales representative before joining MontanaSky in 2012, starting at the front desk and working his way up through the ranks to eventually become CEO.

Ryan holds a degree in Business Administration and maintains an active CPA license. His core values—honesty and integrity above all else—guide both his leadership and his service to the community. He serves on several nonprofit boards and loves living and working in Flathead County.

His favorite Star Trek series is The Next Generation.
